It has been reported on Roger French’s blog that Cumbria Classic Coaches is to close at the end of September. Very sad - it will almost certainly mean the loss of the wonderful (and quirky) Wednesday only route 572 across the Pennines from Kirkby Stephen to Barnard Castle. The 106 between Kendal and Penrith is tendered and may survive. The 572 uses classic vintage vehicles, a 1959 Bristol Lodekka or a 1946 Leyland Tiger in the summer. Nothing on their website but apparently on Facebook, as a dinosaur I don’t use this. Very sad!

The post, on 15 July, reads as follows. In the comments, the operator confirms that the vehicles will be sold, with interest already expressed in some (such as Bristol Lodekka ‘Harvey’ being enquired about by Jonathan Jones Pratt of JJP Holdings).

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Cumbria Classic Coaches will cease operating all routes at the end of the day on Tuesday 30th September 2025.
This affects
Monday Route 571
Tuesday and Friday Route 106
Wednesday Route 572
and Thursday Route 570

The 106 committee will be re tendering the 106 route and hopefully Westmoreland and Furness Council will work with the local communities to cover the gaps.

This has been an extremely difficult decision to make and there was never going to be a good time to make it.

It has been a great experience serving our local communities and we would like to thank all our passengers for their custom and loyalty over the last 28 years.

Someone travelled on the 572 last week, and reported that a run of all their vintage vehicles is expected in September. I'm another one that doesn't use Facebook. Has there been any news about this?
