Tfl Tramlink Croydon has put out a tender to lease 10 new or used trams from the end of the year for 'more than 10 years but less than 20 years' (around time of existing fleet renewal I guess). The trams will be to operate a new service Therapia Lane and Elmers End via central Croydon, and this will require five trams in service for a minimum of 12 h a day, Monday to Saturday. The existing fleet has been hard pressed for some time with the current service pattern requiring 22 out of 24 to be in service every day. In 2009 they tried to lease 4 trams from Edinburgh (due to infrastructure being behind schedule but rolling stock construction on time). Nothing has come of that but the 10 number is significant because its considered to be the number of Edinburgh trams surplus to requirement with their new phased opening strategy, issuing a formal OJEU notice may be their way of acquiring them legit.
