Croxley Green - Rickmansworth

I deduced from an overheard conversation that trains are running Watford (Met) to Chesham during the engineering works this weekend. Can anyone confirm, and will they be running next weekend as well?

This would be an opportunity to travel on that section of track without overnighting at Rickmansworth, if I recall the timetable correctly, or at least getting up at a ridiculous hour

According to the TfL journey planner, yes there are direct trains today and next weekend as well.

Yes, this weekend, trains will run from Northwood to Watford, then onward to Chesham via the North Curve.

If you're into track bashing, there's another set of points you'll be able to do this weekend which you're not able to do in any timetabled move - 95 points at Harrow on the Hill. Trains will operate from Amersham to Harrow via the main lines, then reverse in Harrow platform 2 via the wrong road starter across 95 points to head back north.

In fact the station called Croxley Green was further away from The Green than plain Croxley :P

I've actually managed already to do it as part of a (failed) tube challenge attempt. The Met timetable had changed so it was actually most useful for us!

You probably had the former LNWR station in mind.

I've travelled north from Harrow OT Hill platform 2 when LU were running their heritage train from here to Amersham. It reversed in platform 2.

This was causing much confusion among passengers today (I was asked for advice on no less than six occasions, my coat didn't even look like a LUL uniform). I have no idea why as the driver announcements were very, very clear. (Although there were NO announcements regarding the changed calling pattern at any station that I visited today, except Chalfont & Latimer)

On departure from Moor Park, the driver announced "This is a Metropolitan Line train to Chesham via Watford, calling at Croxley, Watford, Croxley again, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Chalfont & Latimer and Chesham. Take this train for Watford, Chesham and change at Chalfont for Amersham." Seemed clear enough to me.

I've done the Kennington loop. Yeah, just stay in the front or rear carriage so you are far less likely to be seen by staff. Ignore all train and station announcements to get off the train (even if it does sound like they are aware you are on the train - obviously if a member of staff personally sees you, then leave). After a few minutes, the train will depart. Just be aware you could be stationary in the loop for a while. It took about 20 minutes to complete the loop and get back to Kennington again when I did it. I certainly was hoping for a while that the driver hadn't got off the train and it was going to be parked there overnight!!

The Kennington loop is passenger cleared, so staff don't bother checking that everyone's off. If you miss the announcement, you simply emerge at the the same station a while later.

You missed the disruption then. Unit 115 stalled when crossing from 31(?) road to Platform 1 at Rickmansworth just before 1600 this afternoon, blocking both tracks with all services suspended into/out of the station. Didn't get moving until 1730. I was on the very last train before it over the curve. Would have been very annoyed had I been running a few minutes later.

I got a Chiltern to Rickmansworth then crossed to the London bound platform. Announcements were non existent, no sign-age on the platforms, no screens, nothing over the tannoy (if there is one). ah. no i did it Sunday mid morning then went back to London from Watford Junction. Guess I got lucky.

There was real-time signage advising of the disruption as at all other stations just beyond the gates as you come onto the platform, however I agree that it was not made clear what the service pattern was like. There were temporary departure lists stuck on the window of the information booth on the platform and over the service information poster in the concourse, with train numbers and destination, and they do say "Watford & Northwood" for those trains that went that way, but I suppose that they can be easily missed.

I was asked on leaving the train at Watford as to which one went to Northwood. So confusion was a distinct possibility as the announcements (on southbound trains at least) seem to be that the train only goes as far as Watford, and nothing to say that it continues to Northwood.

Really, I wonder why they couldn't have just printed some temporary timetable posters and displayed them next to the real-time service information screens. It would seem to me that the departure lists were printed by station staff on their own initiative than what LU directed.
