Contactless Problems on NXWM Buses?

. . .For some strange reason my Halifax Contactless Debit Card was refused on the local bus from my home stop – I got a red screen with a cross on it saying "This Card is not Valid on this Bus!" – I don't know why as I've never had to use the card on TfL, etc., which may block it, and there was an adequate credit balance on the card as well as an Authorised Overdraft!

. . .The vehicle in question was one of those single–decker 61/62 reg ones that regularly turn up on the 8, 9 and 10 services in my area – the older "double–deck" vehicles usually accept my Halifax no problem, and it worked OK on the W.H. Smith Self–Service Payment Till on New Street. concourse no problem!

. . .What did used to work was to present the card upside–down and the right–way up again (it was actually an NXWM Bus Driver that suggested I try this!), but that didn't work on this vehicle either!

. . . Anyone got any suggestions why it happens, and have had similar experiences?

I have a constant problem with one particular double decker on the number 9 not accepting my card, and, if i tap in more than 10 times on buses without using my card elsewhere with pin, there being no option to enter pin on the bus it just buzzes an invalid card refusal, annoying on seven consecutive shifts losing the cap

. . .I've a vague feeling that when Contactless Cards were first issued by Halifax a leaflet came with them advising you to insert the card and use PIN after a certain number of uses to ensure that the card remains valid for "Contactless" transactions!

. . .Further to the above, when I got back from my Sister's by train today, the 10 at St. Paul's to my local home stop was one of the older Enviro400 double–deckers which accepted my Halifax debit card no problem, altho' I did pay for a hot drink on Euston Station Concourse by inserting the card and using PIN – does this "reactivate" Contactless use?
