This is not really an appropriate forum to discuss this aspect of the debate - you are focussing specifically on immigration policy. I merely touched upon that aspect of the debate to explain why the UK govt. maintains an isolationist stance through its non-participation in Schengen
I don't share your viewpoint at all
Unsurprisingly you believe that a pan-European approach to immigration means complete abandonment of any border control policy with the consequence of a flood of illegals entering the UK - it must be true because you've seen them on the E40 motorway and/or read about them in the pages of the Daily Mail. Mainland Europe discovered the futility of attempting such controls some time back - unfortunately the UK's island status deceives an ill informed UK public into believing that strategy still works.
Fact is there would still be border integrity but those borders would be EU borders, policed/managed collectively - with greater overall efficiency - ever heard of economies of scale? Immigration is a complex global affair - Britain in isolation cannot effectively manage this issue but the UK govt will continue to maintain the facade of border integrity for largely political reasons, ie. in order to salve the very same concerns you've displayed in this thread, allowing the public to delude themselves into thinking the matter is under control - it isn't!!!
