If that’s the case that seems….incredibly short sighted. Was it? I've a feeling that remodelling Crewe wasn't going to come about until 2B

The tunnel was 2B.The rest was 2A.Was it? I've a feeling that remodelling Crewe wasn't going to come about until 2B
The lack of "via Chester" on the screens has nothing to do with the management of the station. It's up to TfW's short-term planners or (failing that) their CIS Controller.
Assuming that you arrived on platform 9 or 10, there would have been one attached to the wall beyond the buffer stops.
In Crewe the Avanti staff can obviously swap TfW trains between platforms, but that's about all they can do without phoning Cardiff. There may also be a station controller / announcer who also has some limited CIS control.
I'd suggest the Avanti staff can't swap TfW trains between platforms. Only Network Rail in the control room can.In Crewe the Avanti staff can obviously swap TfW trains between platforms, but that's about all they can do without phoning Cardiff.
The pedantry in this place reaches new levels.I'd suggest the Avanti staff can't swap TfW trains between platforms. Only Network Rail in the control room can.
To be fair, that isn't how your previous posting read. The pedantry in this place reaches new levels.
When I am referring to "swapping platforms", I am referring to changing the CIS screen so that the 08:52 to Middle Wallop is now advertised to depart from platform 3 instead of platform 13.
To be fair too, I spent 21 years of my working life commuting in and out of Crewe station. Many a day, a passenger would ask me, rather than staff. My train for Derby (nearly always) departed from platform 4. But it also left from every platform other than 9 and 10. On one occasion it went north to come back due to a points failure. From the bottom end of 12, was the day I nearly missed it.To be fair, that isn't how your previous posting read.
Things do seem to have become trickier since the hourly LNWR Euston service now takes its layover on platform 11 rather than in the bay at platform 7 now it's a 10 car 730. This has definitely seen platform 12 used more.
