Class 66 cab doors

Every so often i'll see a class 66 passing and notice that one of its cab doors isn't fully shut or in some cases is wide open. I assume this isn't too much of a problem though as the doors open inwards and there are internal doors in the class 66, however I stand to be corrected

So my question is, why are the doors sometimes open? is it mechanical issue, maybe a weak latch? or is it something else.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I have also seen this with cab doors opposite to the direction of travel

By any chance do you see this in the summer?

The cabs of some vehicles can become uncomfortably warm, and if you're trundling along then having the door open creates a bit of breeze.

Locomotives have operated with cab doors open for donkeys' years when shunting/slow moving as they get incredibly hot inside

It'll more than likely be intentional. Class 66s have had a particularly troublesome history of industrial relations over the years due to the heat that builds in the cabs of them.

Yes I do, but I also recall seeing this in colder months like January for example.

I would have never known the cabs of 66's get so warm, anyway as they say, you learn something new everyday.

Nothing unusual about cab doors being open on the move.

My brother, a now retired driver, used to complain about doors opening themselves on the move on older loco types and being unable to close them again.

Maybe 66s suffer the same fault.

One end of 67002 would often have one of its cab doors randomly open (the engine room door was the most common) as a result of its HAA riding excursion at Lawrence Hill.

66's in general or DB ones? I ask because Toton fitted a damper hinge to the DB doors to stop them swinging so freely. This cured the drip-drip of finger injuries. (Unfortunately for me, I forgot when exiting a FL 66 and nearly lost the tip of a finger. Ouch!!) I wonder if the 'Law of Unintended Consequences' has led to them not closing properly.

Sorry for the late response. In response I am referring to 66's in general.

The answer to the original question is that the Driver hasn't bothered shutting it! I was on 66s for 16 years, sometimes I'd shut em, sometimes not, it doesn't affect noise levels in the cab as the internal door(s) are always shut.
