I have heard rumours that the Greater Anglia Class 360s will be staying as the Aventras are too wide for the platforms on the Wickford to Southminster line so a class 360 might be used on that service

There's no plans to give Siemens a new deal for maintaining the 360s.

With a Bombardier plant on site, it will make sense for them to keep the 379s, unless they contract the maintenance of the 360s out to someone else, which would be stupid as one of the reasons the Desiro line is so reliable is that the maintenance for pretty much all of them is contracted to Siemens directly.

Best not, we are short of EMU units as it is
Are we? We will have the 321s and 322s joining most of the 319s in storage soon, along with class 707, 360 and 350/2. Not to mention the DC only stock that SWR are withdrawing.

NB I am not mentioning the PEP based stock as that will be melted down into saucepans and coke cans.

They could use s 755/4, it would fit and they have plenty. Diagram would be tricky though, as that unit would be a long way from home, even if stabled at Colchester.

Assuming there are enough Class 755 units to cover the rest of the DMU work which should come first.

As mentioned elsewhere, there's a strong rumour that 360s will go to the MML and the 379s are being retained. While the Renatus fleet of 31 could work it would require asking Bombardier to maintain a train they didn't build and would cause significant fall-out for GA after promising a completely new fleet. 321s use on WA would require significant work on platforms to make them compliant for DOO. The Electrostar is a Bombardier product, is cleared for use on the GEML and WA and would require little type training as the WA locals and Southminster service already run out from Ilford. They could also cover non-Crown Point Norwich diagrams.

Hopefully they will have a refresh inside with new seat cushions and flooring and a new livery in the style of the other new units.

Do they have enough power to pull anything else? If so could they couple to 185s which TPE will shortly be abandoning, and which can run with fewer engines than they have due to ve being designed for hilly routes, and make a bimode? I know that this is very far fetched.

No they don’t. Apart from exceptional cases EMUs are only powered enough for themselves, and for low speed rescue of similar units.

I would like to see that happen. What about coupling, could 360s be coupled to trains that are not desiro??

Rescue only in extremis, the reasons have been covered numerous times but basically, even if the mechanical coupling matches, the electronics never do.
