On another forum quite a while ago (I am new to RailUK) I asked whether there were any Class 25s registered (or being prepared) for mainline use.

If I recall, someone posted that WCRC have one. Any updates?

Would be great to ride behind one again on NR metals sometime.

The North Yorkshire Moors' D7628 (25278) is passed to work over NR metals between Battersby Junction and Whitby as part of the NYMRs' Grosmont-Whitby extended operation. At the moment, this is the only class 25 registered to run on any part of the national network.

West Coast Railway Company have D7659 (25309) undergoing overhaul, reportedly for a return to the main line. A very old thread on this forum had some details:

Cheers for that. Wonder if the WCRC 25 will ever make it to the rails?!

I'd like to think so, it would be good to see a "rat" given the chance to really stretch it's legs. The internet seems rather quiet regarding recent reports of any progress though, so who knows...

Be popular if you look at how many turned out for Tamworth Castles last BR run. Might be a bit much though with a lone class 25 up front although would sound good :D although i could see it on some of the quiter lines where the pressure on paths was less
A 25 with 7 on up the lickey , any takers :D::D

Hate to go down the route of "what if?".

But.

I'm thinking of XC back in the late 80s with a "new series" of 2X-X locos and Mk3 stock based on the International Train.

Working in a push-pull formation 2X-TF-TSB-TS-TS-TS-TS-2X

They'd probably be still in use now...

I never did 25s in main line service (just a bit too young and 37s had taken over the Aberystwyths by the time I was on the scene), but I was an enthusiastic basher of 27s on Edinburgh > Dundee and Carlisle > Glasgow workings, so I'd be keen to get any 25 action that was going.

:shock::shock::shock:

Blimey, bet the traction motors were glowing incandescant at the top
There is a vid of special on youtube of a pair of 20s only just making it up the lickey admited one of the 20s was having major electrical issues
we used to get loads of paired 25s through here on the Oakham Pborough line in the 70s and early 80s with unfitted and partials If only i had a video cam and realised what was to be back then,
like wise never thought to get any video of the 58s and even 60s, now a distant memory on this line. At least i can always get the guess the loco class right with my 11 yr old son while waiting at the LC

Sounds like its a class 66 "yeh you were right dad":D
