Would it be possible to use the class 117 dmu at the Swanage railway on main line excursions but locomotive hauled like conventional carriages ?. If so, it could visit other heritage lines and be used conveniently, then carry fare paying passengers on the main line with say a class 50 up the Lickey. Plenty of opening windows, views front and back. Just an idea. Sorry if it has been mentioned before.

The Swanage 117 was refurbished to mainline standards as part of Project Wareham, so I would presume it can be used as hauled stock on the mainline - but it could also run under its own power - assuming it's still in mainline condition 6 years on.
