i need to go from london to manchester on 23/3, returning 24/3.

three questions..

1. which tickets are valid via leeds?
2. which standard class ticket will allow an upgrade to 1st and the excess is the lowest possible (company policy is no 1st class travel so need to get the cheapest upgrade)
3. same as questions 1 and 2 but from reading to manchester

- outbound time is flexible. return after 4pm.
- valid via leeds not necessarily required for questions 2 or 3

1) Check the Routeing Guide, but I very much doubt Leeds is a permitted route. If you are asking for a combination of tickets via Leeds, it does depend on your journey requirements (why via Leeds?)

2) I guess, get the highest priced standard ticket, this minimises the excess (but rips off the company if it's not needed!)

3) Same again!

Do you need to go via Leeds on both directions? If you simply want to visit Manchester and Leeds, let us know which day (e.g. Leeds first?) a round trip is more feasible as a ticket to Huddersfield would be valid via Manchester or Leeds*

(* See the other thread)

If you want to visit each place once, the cheapest is likely to be a combination of 3 advance singles.

I can find nothing to suggest that Manchester to London is valid via Leeds. Essentially it is one three; via the Trent Valley and Milton Keynes, via Birmingham and Milton Keynes, via Birmingham and High Wycombe. Sorry :(

There's also via the Hope Valley Line to Sheffield and the MML to St. Pancras (Maps MM+PS). If you want to visit Leeds, this is probably the cheapest way to do it, by buying an additional Sheffield-Leeds return.
