Hi all

I'm going to down to the village of Eccleshall in Staffs which is about 8 miles of west of Stafford on 12th February to watch some Vodkat League football. I'm a Y-P railcard holder and I'm amazed a CEF to STA return is over £14, which is a rip off for such a short journey (1hr 34 average).

Seeing as we'll be getting a bus from Stafford onto Eccleshall, price unknown, add an extra £4/£5 is there any chance we can get to this sort of area cheaper than £18/£19? Any splits or even bus tickets (we'd travel on buses if we have to - my wallet doesn't like letting go of cash) that will help us get there for less? Even by a couple of pounds! I got to Barrow in Furness for less than £15 with some advance tickets booked 2 weeks in advance and thats triple the distance.

Thank you

Tom

Have you checked if Stafford offers Plusbus? The website for it is www.plusbus.info it comes in handy as well, because you can save on your bus fares and it comes in handy as you buy with your train ticket from Stafford it costs £2.

To be honest with you its advance ticket to Barrow which are particularly good value here, rather than the cost to Stafford being exceptional...

I can find a small saving splitting at Stockport: advance tickets to Stafford are available from there at £4.60 each way. You can then get an off-peak day return Chapel to Stockport for £4.70, total cost £13.90.

You can reduce this to £4.30 for the two advance tickets (ie £13.30 in total) by booking through Cross Country's website, but to make this work you'd have to go for the e-tickets as they charge a booking fee for any other format.

You can also get as far as Stoke for £12.55 with a Cheshire Day Ranger. However the last bus from Ecclsehall to Stokeappears to be at 15:45 which I presume is too early for you.
