In a strikingly similar incident to that at Motspur Park a few weeks ago, a car has driven onto the tracks at the level crossing at Sherborne Station:
We’re sorry for the disruption on the West of England line this evening. As you can see, a car is currently blocking the railway in the Sherborne Level Crossing area, and we’re unable to run trains along this section of track.

In this incident, unlike the one mentioned above, it's not exactly clear why the driver made this turn. There is a turn after the level crossing, however in the opposite direction to the direction the driver has turned. There doesn't really seem to be an explanation for why the driver has done this.

The West of England Line between Sailsbury and Yeovil is closed, with trains being diverted via Westbury.

Level Crossings are fairly well lit, so i have a very hard time understanding why people turn on to something that very visibly is not a road??

Looks like someone's dumped it and ran, in a way that will occupy police resources. Door open and engine still running.

I agree, looks deliberate. There's nothing like the same scope for a mistake on the part of the driver at that location as at Motspur Park

Even if you're panicking, would you leave a car of which you are the registered keeper, knowing that the police can find you? I wonder whether it had been stolen.

If you are muppet enough to drive onto the line are you going to be calm enough to turn off and close the door or are you going to get out of the way of trains as soon as possible?

Yeah, that's got abandoned getaway car written all over it.

Drunks doing this, usually after colliding with something large and static, seem to be a regular enough thing to try and avoid a drink driving charge.

If you're panicking, you're not thinking at that level. You just run away. I believe it's fairly common for police to simply wait at the side of an abandoned car in a position it shouldn't be because there's a fair bet that after the adrenaline's worn off the driver thinks 'what on earth have I done' and goes back to the scene to see if it might be salvaged.
