I've noticed that access to the lift, on both sides, is outside of the canopy. Surprised there isn't a fuss being kicked up about this, seems a bit harsh on those of limited mobility.

The lower lift doors on these modular bridge arrangements are usually underneath the section of the bridge that is between the top of the stairs and the upper lift entrance. So users will be under cover when waiting for the lift, but as you say they will not be undercover while moving alongside the staircases. Adding a few feet of canopy alongside the stairs wouldn't be that difficult would it...

Bang on schedule, the platforms were open and in use this morning. 0 out of 10 for whoever decided that a 6cm wide strip of metal directly under the handrail makes for a suitable ramp for wheeling bikes up and down- the station staff didn't seem impressed, as they'd put notices apologising for them at the bottom of the stairs. lifts weren't in use either...

It wasn't bang on schedule! I was supposed to use it from Diesel Depot with 1115 Stansted yesterday... The lifts don't work and there weren't enough staff booked for it yesterday... It's pretty exposed and no doubt the bad weather due will make it a place to avoid unless waiting rooms... Plus i only have two minutes for a connection from platform 8 to 6 where as before platform 4 to 5 or 6.... Bugger! Lol

just the occasional one or two

Colleague of mine was a tad annoyed at the platform allocation this morning. His train from Waterbeach, forming the rear portion of a 12-carriage kings Cross, still used platform 1, whilst our train, now a 12 carriage liverpool Street, used 7. He was hoping that one would use 7 and the other 8. No such luck.

The first thing I thought when I saw the new platforms was "that canopy isn't going to provide much shelter" because its so ridiculously tall! The new canopies at Derby are the same, the wind and rain just blows right underneath :(

Technical question:
These platforms are the newest in the country. They're dead straight and as as far as I can see, utterly level. All passenger trains through them will stop- so speeds are low, and the track is all brand new.

The Class 379 is the newest EMU class in the country.

Why is there still a fairly big step from platform to train?

Surely it should have been possible to build this platform so that boarding to most of the classes using it was almost level?
