Hi,

Just a couple of quick questions I could do witgh answering:
1) What services use/have ever used etc the Down Slow south of Cambridge, between Cambridge station and Shepreth Branch Jn?
2) Will the new island platform bring any layout changes to the stations/surrounding area?

Thanks as always,

Matt

I have been on FCC services that have used the down slow line, though it doesn't happen very often. These services were terminating at Cambridge & were waiting for a platform to become available. Generally there was some late running or other congestion with a northbound XC or Kings Lynn service waiting on the main line.

I've been on northbound terminating NXEA services awaiting a platform there as well. Also gets used for short-term stabling, typically for stock for trains starting from platforms 2/3 that's come off the sidings opposite 1/4.

The Down Slow Loop (known to drivers as "The Cupboard") is not a stabling point. However, it is used for shunts from the London end of the station, although you can shunt out onto either of the Down lines.
