I remember the now closed thread on the LNER mascot and others being used by the railway but was just reading a story on BBC news about how businesses using a mascot are 37% more likely to grow their business than those who dont - so you can see why LNER themselves do use one

There are plenty of good reasons for firms to adopt a cute character to embody their brand. Businesses whose marketing campaigns include mascots are 37% more likely to grow their market share than those which don't, according to research, external published back in 2019.

I wonder if correlation does not imply causation comes into play here though. Apple have created a mascot but are their sales going to increase as a result of the mascot or would they increase anyway?

I have no special knowledge but I guess the question is whether the mascot makes things even better for a business that already has a compelling offering to current and potential customers. If the business is weak, the mascot would probably become a target for abuse/memes etc.

Also...... clippy!
