Buses on Motorways with Standees

Which law? The speed limit for a bus or coach 12 metres or less in length (which is most, I guess) on a Motorway is (answers on a postcard) ?

Yes. 100km/h for a bus is an EU legal requirement too.

As limiters don't tend to do braking, it is feasible to reach 70mph legally on the downhill

......which (unless otherwise reduced) is 70 mph on a motorway for a 12m bus/coach.

I wasn't aware that buses had a different speed limit on motorways to other vehicles....

They don't, unless they are over 12m long.

I haven't seen *any* buses with seat belts on anywhere, even on express services, unless dual-purposed for school use or a coach (no standees).

The DAF Plaxton Primas Arriva used to have up here were coaches with seatbelts but were also plated to carry 8 standees.

Nearly every service bus into Newcastle from the south goes on the Central Motorway, and that includes with standing passengers.

Sounds like someone got their law wrong. Not unusual with traffic police, to be quite honest.

If you think a police officer got the law wrong it might be an idea to contact the relevant police force about it.

Quite frankly I'd take the suggestion that Sussex police took it upon themselves to ban standing passengers on the Gatwick Airport to Three Bridges RRS with a pinch of salt.
