Bus Station chaos.

The council in North East Lincolnshire got money for improving transport from DfT. All the council did with the 6 million pounds was to knock the bus station down for a possible shopping centre extension.
Now the buses stop on 3 different streets and the buses now have to share the streets with cars and people!

The streets are pedestrian and bus/car shared space which looks dangerous but the council think it's safe.

We were promised a new waiting room be built ut instead an old cafe was refitted to make it cheaper.

The bus station site now has a huge bore drill on it, any idea what they're doing? Fracking??

I think the project was corrupt because some councillors were Balfour Beatty shareholders are they were picked for the work.

Buses have become slower and trade in the area has slumped leading to Starbucks closing. And the block paving use in the road /pavement has become flithy as it's porus and they have been braking and coming loose. The paving has been relaid 10 times this year but the council won't tarmac it. Also some injuries have been caused by the invisible curve.

Anyone else seen anything as stupid as this?

In a sense, yes I have. Nexus decied to rebuild Gateshead Interchange, and now it's a splendid bus station, everything under cover. Except, they didn't for some reason, refurbish the metro station below, making it a seamless exercise. So the metro station still has 1980s décor, wheras the bus stands are of 2000s décor!

Or, how about the stupidity of Network rail and Transport Scotland, when Halbeath Park and Ride opened. The Fife Circle rail line runs past it, and yet only now have they bothered to talk about building a rail station. Should've been done in one job.

No doubt part of the intergrated transport strategy, in both cases.

I think you're going to have to be a little more geographically precise before we can properly comment.

As for block paving - often seems to serve as little more than ammunition for civil disturbances.

The old bus station in Grimsby was called Riverhead and was technically on Haven street. Now the replacement bus stops are on George street, Townhall street and Victoria street. The latter has the waiting room near the junction with Townhall street. The shared pedestrian sections are on George street and Victoria street.

If you are looking from satelite it's between the townhall and Freshney place shopping centre and near a small dock with a barge in it.

Bus stations are prime council land to sell of to make a quick buck.
Build new and smaller rather than renovate and keep up.

Plymouth is set to go down this trap as they have sold off the spacious Bretonside to shunt the buses off on to the overcrowded Royal Parade, the coaches into a new smaller coach station, and the visiting coach, bus layover and overnight HGV parking to... nowhere.

It sounds like the council are as bad as my awful council.
