Berwick was always one that intrigued me. Obviously, the dual tenancy thing was one thing. However, the construction/style of the Marygate site was also a bit of a hybrid. There were some aspects that were very much Tilling style - the type of "shelter" bolted to the wall, and the style of eaves at the rear of the depot. However, the front aspect of the depot wasn't very Tilling and the type of bricks used weren't standard either, being more like type used on New Street depot.

I didn't know if Galashiels was operated owned or council. I remember Dalkeith all too clearly and believe that Livi was similar as a combined depot and bus station? There was also Kelso, which I thought was a sweet little place to wait for your Seddon.

Confess my ignorance of further North or West in Scotland. The various bus stations (or should I say stances) that predated Buchanan were company owned? Was Ayr owned by Western, and is now the council? Think there was also Largs and Airdrie

How could I have left out Kelso. That one lasted until First pulled out of the town in 2003. It, Berwick, Dalkeith and Livingston were all combined bus station/depot complexes.

Galashiels bus station was owned by First until 2013, when the local council bought it ahead of work starting on the Borders Railway. The replacement Interchange is owned by the council.

I remember popping via Kelso (I was driving from Midlands to Bathgate for work) to have one last look around. The travel office was still open - the allocation was 5, I think. It really was of a bygone age. At that time, they'd got a load of hammered ex KCB Tigers but it did feel that any moment, a green Seddon would appear for Kirk Yetholm!

As for Gala, it never seemed to have much branded signage for Lowland or First so perhaps that's why it was unclear for me.

Crewe hasn't been operator owned since Crosville was privatised, it was sold off, along with most of Crosville's other property, by their new owners ATL.
Since that time it has been owned by several development companies, all of whom failed to deliver grandiose plans for a new shopping centre & bus station. Following the failure of the last scheme several years ago, it was apparently purchased by the local council, who also keep promising imminent redevelopment !

If I remember correctly, Crosville actually closed their garage, which is on the same site, in 1988 & relocated to a new site within the town as closure and demolition was expected within weeks, only to move back in the following year when the redevelopment plan failed.

I wouldn't have thought that any operator would want to invest capital in a facility they don't own & know may be subject to sudden closure so I think they can't be criticised for that.

The local paper reported that Arriva lease the bus station from Cheshire East Council. As you say, Crewe Town Centre has been earmarked for redevelopment for years (the shops on the streets surrounding the bus station are now boarded up). A previous redevelopment fell through when the company overseeing it when under, and the current plan has been in the works for far too long, with seemingly little action from the council. Mind you, the current problems won't have made getting the redevelopment started any easier.

The depot at the bus station was shut in 1988, but I dont think there was any plan to redevelop the site and it was later discovered there was a clause stipulating there must be a bus station on the site for a period of time (50 years or something like that). It was just ATL looking to cash in. The depot got moved to the Crewe Gates Industrial Estate (near where PMT had a depot), but when Midland Red North took over in early 1989, they immediately reopened the town centre depot and did some cosmetic improvement work on the bus station.

Can anyone name some bus stations which are owned or managed by the bus operators. I have a list to start us off but any extras would be appreciated. A normal hint to who owns and runs the bus station is by if the companies logo is on the safety signs approaching the bus station. Please do not assume who owns a bus station by them being a sole operator there (because as per examples below, this isn't a good indicator) or because bus timetables show a company style (some areas allow bus operators to put their own styling on timetables for example WY Metro allowing Transdev to put their Transdev branded stuff at their stands in bus stations)

Arriva
Owned + Managed: Alnwick, Blyth, Crewe & Wakefield
Managed: Guildford (only stands 1-15)

First
Owned + Managed: Bath, Bristol, Camborne, St Ives
Managed: Basildon, Fareham, Otley

GoAhead
Owned + Managed:
Managed: Poole (Under MoreBus brand), Norwich

Stagecoach
Owned + Managed: Aldershot, Canterbury, Carlisle, Chichester, Exeter (for the time being), Folkestone, Paignton, Workington
Managed:

Transdev
Owned + Managed: Harrogate
Managed: Burnley

Independants
Owned + Managed: Belper (TrentBarton)
Managed: Sevenoaks (Go-Coach)

Many entries are thanks to contributors below.
As well as the ones you mention - at one point I believe Derby had Arriva involved in the station - though i am unsure

Hull is a patnership (or at least it appears that way) between EYS and stagecoach - but it would be a fine line I think - not a whole agreement

Grimsby has a sort of Bus Stn domninated by stagecoach but the Stops are'nt by Stagecoach mind
