To extend the route you will need the permission of both Devon and Dorset county councils.

Why? Do they fund the route?

The only issue with this proposal is funding. Can such a service be viable commercially?

Yes, jointly. The first batch of Scanias was also funded jointly by the LAs, together with grant money (Kick-Start I think) from the central government.

My feeling is that it will not survive on a commercial basis without a massive increase in fares. Despite high patronage levels in the summer, the route is very quiet during winter months.

How about Bolton - Little Lever - Radcliffe - Whitefield - Prestwich - Manchester ?

no through service Little Lever - Manchester
no direct services Radcliffe / Whitefield - Bolton (only via Farnworth)
Prestwich - Manchester underbussed

I would like to see first expand *choke* a bit further south in Leicester, Possibly set up an express route to Market Harborough and also re establish a mega old route to Blaby, But using the 88 as a basis. since Eyres monsell is about halfway there or more, they could run down Hillsborough Road to the A426, Lutterworth road. When in blaby it juse serves the main housing areas through the village center and back out again.
