The Cowes Floating Bridge is tidal as the tide goes right up to Newport Quay. It is not uncommon for yachts to caught on the chain because they have misjudged the strength or set of the tide.
Finished in 2016 as far as I'm aware. This was my immediate first thought too. There used to be a rope or cable ferry across the Severn just below the SVR station at Hampton Loade. Don't know if it's still there though. I used it as a teenager back in the early 'seventies'.
It stopped running a long time ago. A shame as it was a lot of fun. This may fail the "not primarily for tourists" proviso but there was (possibly still is, but I've not heard mention of it for ages so I presume it no longer runs) a timetabled "water bus" service up the five-rise and three-rise locks on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Bingley.
