The family holiday in August, 1995 was to the Isle of Wight where I was delighted to see some half cab Bristol Lodekka open toppers at The Needles. Luckily, I had my video camera with me; it was in the days of VHS which I have since digitalised so the quality is not up to the standards of today’s equipment, but at least it’s a record of these once commonplace 1950s vintage buses. Hope you approve:

TTFN,

Ron.

Very nice. I remember those myself; usually used as a means of getting back to Yarmouth after having walked from there to the Needles via Fort Victoria and Headon Warren. Here's 501 ( MDL 952 ) at Yarmouth at 15.45 on 16th May 1986, after exactly such a trip.

Glad you like it.
I remember 'out of town' buses in Leeds being Lodekkas. Notably up Harrogate Road on the 36 'red bus'. Then they got Bristol RE's and the 36 got first go with them.

I grew up in London, so was brought up on RTs, RTLs, RTWs, etc., so going on holiday to other places with different buses was always a great excitement. I can remember the Hants & Dorset Bristols that used to run around Southampton and the New Forest area where we used to go and visit one of my aunts, and also Bristols of Western National where another aunt lived in Devon. The local buses around Torquay and Paignton were Devon General AEC Regent IIIs - like RTs, but with different bodies.

Nowadays they're all Stagecoach or Arriva, and they all look the same!
