Brighton Mainline diversionary routes: what might have been

So many "might have beens", had the half-wits not closed all of the decent diversionary routes.

And what would they be? With Gatwick/Reigate, there are few realistic choices....

In previous closures, the bus replacement from E. Grinstead has worked quite well. Perhaps it's GoVia's ownership interest in TSGN, but they are actually good at the large scale bus replacement operations!

You have forgotten East Grinstead to Haywards Heath via Ardingly.

Keeping any of those open to provide alternatives for one weekend a year is somewhat overkill though.

Oh I don't know. The Bluebell Railway could use the route via Ardingly for the other 51 Weekends :D

Well, there's not really much population along that one, so keeping it open would have been overkill.

The others would have been better for year round connectivity as well.
