Sorry triple pay for boxing day..... My mum is a senior nurse and gets 1 and 2/3 pay for christmas day the same as every other sunday and bank holiday including boxing day..... triple pay... having a laugh? Surely double pay should suffice....

Well, we don't get an enhanced rate for Sundays where I am, though they are payable on top of our salary. I do see what you are saying however, but that is more of an issue between your mother, her colleagues and the employer. No offence intended either Jimmy.

Depending on what you are comparing them to. I am familiar with NHS pay levels, and I know of very few nurses nationally who would be on a take-home pay comparable with an average Train Driver in my TOC. In fact, the majority of nurses would be on less take-home than a guard, despite the length of training and level of knowledge and responsibility required.

I don't wish to compare salaries between particular industries or occupations, but a lot of people are on less money than a staff nurse! Quite a few are on more as well, of course!

No, that won't keep ASLEF happy for long. There would bound to be something else to complain about. There's no need for a Tube service on Boxing Day. There are no buses running and no shops open.

There was a Sunday bus service running in London from about 7am on Boxing Day (with some earlier services around Heathrow). There were also rather a lot of shops open. Not that I went to any.
