This is appalling. No worthwhile/useable WCML service between Brum and Glasgow is totally unacceptable. The current option seems to be "get a train to Crewe, another to Preston then change again for Glasgow!"
Thank goodness that NRE seems to say that on a random day in April there will be direct Brum to Glasgow trains again.

No there still are some services between Birmingham & Glasgow just not every 2hrs as before the pandemic.

Thanks... I've just looked (at 11/5/2023, chosen at random) and it's better than "some," which is a relief. However the gaps in the timetable are the 0907 and the 1307, which as I said above, really isn't good enough given both stations' importance both as cities in their own right and as transport/rail hubs.
Edinburgh retains its full service of 2-hourly interval trains.

A down side of the reduced Glasgow offer is that although in a full timetable the Birmingham -Glasgow trains are approx. 25% of the full Preston to Glasgow service (so there would still be 3 trains every two hours north from Preston) whereas Birmingham to Edinburgh is 50% of the Preston to Edinburgh service (combined with TPE (when they do run) = two trains every two hours) therefore arguably, if something has to give, the Edinburgh is the one to retain, but unfortunately the latter arrives at Preston after the hourly Avanti to Glasgow has gone although if TPE were running a full and reliable timetable it would connect into the immediately following the Manchester to Glasgow but unfortunately the current TPE provision is neither complete nor reliable. The alternative of changing at both Crewe and Preston is EDIT: effectively a non starter as with one or two minor exceptions the entire Crewe to Preston service is provided by the hourly train from Birmingham.

Yes I can only presume that’s because of the hourly Euston-Glasgow and that particularly Fridays & weekends Edinburgh has extremely heavy tourist potential not least from hen parties etc.
