I've been buying tickets to New Street for as long as i care to remember and New Street is what it has said on the ticket but today i purchased one and the thread title appeared on it for the first time.

Is it valid to Walsall, Solihull etc as they are the same price?

No. There will be a Birmingham Stations group (at a guess Moor St and Snow Hill, someone will confirm).

Very similar question yesterday

Where are you buying your ticket from? IIRC from previous posts, you are travelling from somewhere in the vicinity of Leicester, right?

The fact that the fare is the same to other stations such as Walsall doesn't mean that you can travel beyond your ticketed destination. The outward/return portion of your ticket expires when you reach your ticketed destination.

Advance tickets and walk-up tickets are often issued to different fare locations - Advances usually being to specific named stations whilst walk-up tickets are generally issued to station groups such as Birmingham Stations, where they exist.

Yes, I travelled from Leicester. In the past I've used Manchester Stations to catch a TPE Redcar service from Pic to Vic. Probably not valid.

That example would be fine; you can travel to any station within the origin/destination group. You don't have to travel to/from the closest station.

Similarly you could could alight at New Street and then continue from Moor Street to Snow Hill on a Birmingham Stations ticket. Wouldn't make much sense but it's permitted.
