I have no knowledge of the design and decision process, but might the lack of interchange be a deliberate decision to try and spread the load? If so, whether it works as intended is a different matter!
The bus fare is £1.50. Its classed as a short hop to Five Ways. Its also quicker for able bodied, luggage free persons to walk from Snow Hill to Victoria Square than to take the tram. This was highlighted in the Birmingham Mail, so I also tried it and they were right. The single tram fare for Zone 1 (Jewellery Quarter to Edgbaston Village) is £2.00, which is cheaper than the bus fare of £2.40.
Whether the bus or tram is better for you depends on where you want to go.
The tram would be better for Corporation Street, New Street Station and Victoria Square.
The tram is also better for those who are unfamiliar with the city, or those who have mobility issues or heavy luggage.
But the point remains that there should be a decent interchange between tram and train at Snow Hill station, for those who want to use it.

I absolutely agree that swapping between various forms of public transport should be as seemless as possible, but now that the tram is going to be going down to Moor Street, im not convinced that an interchange at Snow Hill would be that well used. Passengers from the Stourbridge direction already have the option of The Hawthorns or Jewellery Quarter. Passengers from the Solihull direction will eventually be able to change at Moor Street for the tram, which will probably be quicker than staying on the train to change at Snow Hill.
Well, you've got a point with that. If the construction of the Digbeth extension is as slow as the Five Ways one, we could be waiting a long time. But how long will it take for the trams to get to Moor Street? Given the pace of the previous extensions I’m not optimistic of an early start date. Given St Chads opened in 2016 it’ll probably be a least 10 years of a poor interchange between Children Railways and the Metro.
I also don’t see the problem of have two good interchanges rather than one?
So where is the Moor Street Metro station going to be located? I've just checked the WMM website and I cannot find a reference to Moor St.
