Following my recent and enjoyable visit to the Epping Ongar Railway, I wondered what remains beyond the buffers at Epping.
Obviously nothing can run beyond the station anymore, as there's stop lights in place and the ATO/ATP system won't allow it, but there's still tracks and pointwork there, with live rails in place. Well, rails anyway - are they live? How far is it to the current Epping Ongar boundary, and what's actually there? It goes around a corner so it's hard to see, but looking in a book at the weekend it seems like the double track finishes up with a reversing siding and then the single track onwards to Ongar.
When was the siding last used? Did it survive up to the Ongar closure, or was everything reversing in the station by then?
