We have not heard from you since you made your posting...shall we send out a search party to Pyewipe Junction :cry:
At 03:13hrs, Friday,22nd of January 1988, I signed on at Wakefield Kirkgate to work a train from up North, to The ICI Plant at West Marsh.
We had Class 47 for the job, and releived York Men at Turners Lane. At this time in the morning, me and Danny Kaye who was the driver took it as it came.
The route was Turners Lane, to Doncaster, to take the route that is now covered over with a pit stack,then via Scunny to Grimsby.
On the back of the 47 was 30 TTA's for the ICI at Grimsby.
We ended up at Piewipe Junction with the train , where we picked up the token to get onto the light railway.
The train was drawn up over a set of points, which were released by inserting the single line token into the ground frame into the ICI Sidings at West March.
After placing the trucks in the ICI sidings , they were secured by pinning down enough hanbrakes to hold the train.
We then went over the light railway passing over automatic level crossings .
On arrival at Immingham Receptions, the token was placed on a pole at cab height, so the signalman could walk from his box and collect the token.
We then took the engine on Imminham Shed, shut it down for a quick dash to get a service car for Cleethorpes back to Donny via Thorne, and an HST back to Wakefield Westgate and sign off to get back to my bed.
From my records I went over this route 2 times.
The stench of fish at Piewipe junction was enough to burn the paint off the engine, and not a place to linger about at.
