Doncaster's certainly a good day out, need to get to Toton, my last 60 for sight is there 60093 is among the long lines of them 60's.

I still have a few days holiday left and I was thinking of doing a 3 in 7 day East Midlands rover. Apart from Doncaster, Peterborough and Barnetby,is there anywhere else in the region good for spotting?. I'm after loco's more than units

Just north of Doncaster, Hatfield & Stainforth has some good freight traffic that avoids Doncaster station including the Colas tanks, keep an eye on RTT and get a ticket between the two...

Not sure what Norwich/Ipswich are like for units, but there are two main Cardiff stations so you'd get a reasonable range there (HSTs, FGW Sprinters, ATW Sprinters/Pacers, Class 175s, XC 170s). Check for Rugby World Cup matches though

Norwich:

Class 37's on the Short Hauled Set between Norwich and Lowestoft/Great Yarmouth

EMT 158's (and maybe the occasional 156) on Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street

Greater Anglia 153's, 156's and 170's on services to Sheringham, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Cambridge

Greater Anglia 90 + MK3's + DVT's on services to London Liverpool Street

Ipswich:

Greater Anglia 153's, 156's and 170's on services to Lowestoft, Felixstowe, Cambridge and Peterborough

Greater Anglia 90 + MK3's + DVT's on services to London Liverpool Street and Norwich

Freightliner trains passing through with various locos, and locos stabled in the sidings to the west of the station visible from the platforms.

Another good place to see trains is Ely, where you get:

Greater Anglia 170s on Services to Peterborough, Cambridge, Norwich and Ipswich.

Cross Country 170s on Services to Stansted Airport and Birmingham New Street.

EMT 158s on services to Liverpool Lime Street and Norwich

Great Northern 365's on services to Kings Lynn and London Kings Cross

Regular diesel freight on services towards Nuneaton.

Nuneaton it was today. A good day out, even if ALL trains on the WCML were suspended for a while due to an " incident" between Nuneaton and Stafford.

any 70's? i went looking for them on my Heart of England Rover in june and saw balls all 70 wise, I did click some intermodal freds so it wasnt a wasted journey, even the colas 70's went a different way, which was a right sickner.

Get a train from Westbury to Frome and back on a weekday; most days there will be at least four of the Colas ones lined up in Westbury yard. Plus they'll be in a photographable position as you go past.

I've seen all of the 70s (I live near Leamington) so it is easy to get them. They are just brilliant locos!

2x class 37
3x class 56
not my worst ever day that's for sure.

Has anyone done Reading West lately.? If so is it any good for freight?. Does anyone know if you can park up somewhere so you can see what's on the main GWR line and see what goes off to Reading West?

If you don't mind going out a little way, Tilehurst station is the first out from Reading westbound, covers all except the Reading West to London workings. Good daily mix of freight traffic there.
