Blimey, a close one, strange how it was the LH set affected too, especially there because of the pendo out of action due to the Grayrigg accident.

What? VT aren't using loco hauled services.
390033 crashed a few months back, and they've got a 90 replacing it.

It's only 1 diagram a day it runs, something like this ....

0620 Rugby - Euston via Northampton
Spare set at Euston
1651 Euston - Birmingham New Street
1900 Birmingham New Street - Euston

From Last nights look east.

If this is true, what times are they going?
How can you live on the WCML, use this forum, and not know about it? :o

Up 'til about this time last year we had 87s (see pic of 87002 at BHM), then sadly it ended for a few months. However, the unfortunate loss of a Pendo caused the train to revert to loco haulage, albeit with a 90 instead of an 87.

We've had several 1G21/1B05 'meets' in the past, and if it's still running next Spring/Summer I'm sure we'll have another!

Anyway, a very lucky escape!

The train was already 1 hour late when the incident occured, and arrived at Northampton 306 minutes late at 11:46, and called at Milton Keynes running 315 late at 12:06, was then kept on the slow lines all the way to Euston, finally arriving in time for lunch at 13:02, 328 late. (5 hours 28 minutes).

because
A. I live a mile away from the tracks
B. I had no idea about these as I can't see the tracks from my house
C. I'm either on my way to/from school or at home, doing some revision

Nothing really. A car manage to get stuck on the tracks. Train managed to stop in time. NR turned off the OHLE. Four hours wait for passengers on the train.

Slightly related to this topic.
What is the situation regarding Arriva using some HST's on XC to boost capacity.
How many are there going to be and where are they coming from, MML?

Being stuck for 4 hours without any power they were dammed lucky to be on a loco hauled and not a Pendolino, at least there is the option to have windows open and get a bit of fresh air in. Still not nice though, worst I've had is 2 hours (also on a VWC loco hauled set, due to hitting someone) and that was bad enough, but at least we had power. I actually spent most of the time either leaning out of the window or walking up and down the train.
Luckely there wasn't a collision, although it seems it was bad luck the car was on the line in the first place, but then all railway accidents seem to involve combinations of bad luck and good luck.

I think the suggestion was that you would have noticed reference to the loco hauled set on this site.

To be fair it doesn't seem to generate much interest, must be something to do with the rancidity on the front;) Even last year with 87s there was a 'regular' core of maybe 10-20 regular bashers and more than three or four extras was unusual, obviously the 'last week' (all 3/4 episodes of!!) brought out a few more cranks as is expected.

Completely different topic, but an interesting one. If anyone has anything to add on it please do post a new topic here. Thanks.

By that logic you are implying that everyone else who has posted in this thread lives closer. I think you'll find Scunthorpe, for example, is a tad further than a mile away ;)

Indeed, I live well over a hundred miles away, yet I've known about and seen the VWC LHCS set (would rather veg at Rugby than bash it to Coventry though).

Do you never go out photographing the railways? Or do you never go on trains at all? The way you write sounds as though 1 mile is the closest you get to the railway!

Yep, I live approximately 200 miles away, and I've seen it plenty of times. Never managed to catch a ride on it though. Shame it doesn't do Manchester to Eustons.
