I was one of the first to line up for a demonstration of the headset (as I wasn’t sure whether I’d take to it). What a disappointment - and I didn’t even get a chance to touch the product it remained steadfastly in its presentation case. The first part of the process (for spectacle wearers) is for your glasses to be put in a machine for the prescription to be assessed. Once completed (it takes 30 seconds) it tells staff what inserts you require to make the demo work.

I was told without the correct inserts in place, it will be impossible to read the content and interact with the visuals. Each store supposedly as a selection of over 900 ZEISS lenses for the trial, so these would be selected and the demo commence. As it turned out, they did not have any lenses suitable and whilst apologetic, stated they may expand the range later.

So the upside was I saved quite a bit by falling at the first hurdle - but for those spectacle wearers out there, it isn’t all plain sailing!

Well its good though that they didn't try and bluff their way and try and demo something unsuitable for you. It does show how difficult it will be to get it right.

Curious as to what drew you to the vison pro in the first place?
Would you believe I was always highly critical of Apple (as an outfit that came along late with old ideas - computers, mobile phones, mp3 players and a PDA) but won me over with the iPhone 3GS which knocked competitors out the park. Subsequently they’ve introduced me to a lot of tech and I’ve been impressed with it, even buying it too. Since I never tried VR, this was my opportunity to experience it!

Wonder how it would cope with my vision. Have to wear reading or distance glasses / varifocals, plus to throw in the mix I have astigmatism in my right eye.
Still, with prices starting at £3,500 I ain't going to be rushing down to the shops in a hurry.

We’re in the same boat - the flip side of course is that I’ve saved quite a bit of money (if it was as innovative as it was supposed to be!). I had wondered if it was varifocals being the problem but apparently not as the lenses only focus for the adjacent screen, no further.

I wonder how long it will be before someone complains that they are not making a ‘reasonable adjustment’ for those with such a disability?

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
A while ago I looked the Vision Pro as one of a few options to replace a wired HP Reverb G2 which due to forthcoming Windows 11 changes will be become obsolete within a year. Three and a half grand for something that doesn't natively support PC gaming or sims... nope, that ruled it out. Hell of a piece of kit though.

Why will it become obsolete because of Windows 11 updates?

HP Reverb 2 requires Windows Mixed Reality support to work. WMR is being removed from future Windows installations though if you currently have it installed it should still function.

WMR will be gone if you upgrade to 24H2, coming later this year. You can stay on 23H2 and get security updates till 2026.
