Hello all,
A few weeks ago I was travelling from Euston to Carlisle to visit some family. I took my bike with me and put it in the reserved cabin area at the front of the train as I was instructed by staff who also told me that someone would open it at Carlisle for me but noone opened it. This meant was stuck on the train until the next station which was over an hour away. I explained the situation to the guard who told me to catch the next train back to Carlisle which I did leading me to arrive nearly 3 hours late. Would I be eligible for delay repay?

In this situation a claim for delay repay would be rejected on the basis the train ran to time. You should send a complaint to Avanti a customer relations instead seeking compensation. Ideally you should do this within 28 days of travel. It looks like there has been a crew change at Preston but it is not being communicated that there is a cyclist wishing to alight at Carlisle.

Seconded. If you claim delay repay it will be rejected straight away.

You do have a valid complaint though.

Thank you for the advice, I have submitted a complaint on their website so they should respond. I have to get a key to open the door from a friend who works on the railway so this shouldn't happen again hopefully

If you mean a T-key to open the door to the baggage area then I strongly recommend that you not use it.

Opening an area of a train that you're not authorised to access could result in a telling off at best, through to being arrested as a terrorist suspect at worst. "See it. Say it. Sorted" and all that.

Do not use the key, ever, to open any train door if you want to stay out of trouble.

Also I’d highly suggest your friend doesn’t start giving out keys to people who don’t work on the railway.
