Saw an interesting video where a walker on the West Highland Way close to the section between Bridge of Orchy and Upper Tyndrum was intercepted by the boys in blue and warned off. As he was walking along Wate’s old military road they apparently did not like him deviating from the WHW to take a look at the viaduct. It’s a shame he didn’t elaborate or show the incident but it set me wondering. Was it BTP or plod? Is there anything ‘interesting’ up the valley that would generate a challenge to his ‘right to roam’?

I know that area and walked down Glen Coralan a few years back, to the Horseshoe Viaduct. There’s an estate track which drops down Glen Coralan and joins another track down the Auch Gleann. The track then passes underneath the viaduct and crosses the West Highland Way. The track up Auch Gleann doesn’t lead to any inhabitation so far as I can recall. It’s there for access to the deer shooting and for fishing on Loch Lyon and is normally open to walkers. I didn’t see anything that might make the area off limits permanently. I suspect that someone important was shooting or fishing up the glen and the police were heading off anyone who wanted to travel that way that day.
