Hi all, I want to travel from Slough - Canterbury West but via Stratford International, and then Return to just Stratford International the next day.

A: Does a Trainline ticket from Slough - Canterbury allow me to travel from Slough, I imagine then to Liverpool Street and then on to Stratford and then onto Canterbury? Can the route be via any stations? It says valid for travel via (changing trains or passing through) London, so does that count?

B: Is buying a return and just not going the full journey back to Slough on the way back the cheapest way to do this journey? Instead of buying separate tickets etc?

Thank you so much for your help.

There are two tickets Slough-Canterbury, both are valid via London, the more expensive one allows travel on HS1 from Saint Pancras/Stratford, the cheaper one does not. If you buy the one valid on HS1 you can return to Stratford the next day.

Given that an off-peak return is £54.50 versus a single at £51.50, it would seem that the off-peak return is the best way to do this, as long as your travel complies with its time restrictions.
Morning Travel & Evening Travel
Mondays to Fridays
Not valid on trains timed to depart after 04:29 and before 09:30

If you've got a + hs1 ticket it's actually much quicker and easier to go to Farringdon go north on Thameslink one stop to St Pancras and then get HS1 from there (or the tube if Thameslink is closed).
I've tried Stratford a couple of times from Heathrow but unless you need something in Westfield it isn't the best route.

Remember that an off-peak return is valid for a month and allows break of journey, so the initially unused Stratford-Slough return portion remains valid for the month’s validity of the ticket.

From Slough there's also the option to take a non-stop GWR service to Paddington and then the H&C/Circle to Kings Cross/St Pancras.
