ABUS yard burned out

Can't post the link in quote tags due to number of ads, but ABUS yard at Kingsland Road near Temple Meads was devastated by arson this morning. I believe there was also a preserved RE and VR in there. Commiserations to Alan, a genuine nice guy.

Ten buses have been deliberately set on fire at a depot in Bristol during the night.

The vehicles - six double-decks and four single-deckers - were targeted at the Abus depot in St Philips Marsh.

Avon Fire and Rescue said the fires are thought to have been started deliberately.

The Bristol Post has put out a further article, with an interview with the General Manager. The article states that whilst the fire was initially believed to be deliberate, investigations now suggest it is non-suspicious.

A huge fire saw flames and smoke fill Bristol's skies in the early hours of this morning (November 5), destroying around 10 buses belonging to multiple companies.

The fire service initially said the fire was 'believed to be deliberate' but investigations now suggest it could be non-suspicious. Avon Fire and Rescue Service is still investigating, and Bristol Live will bring you the latest on the cause of the incident as we get it.

Abus also report that 5 vehicles were theirs and 2 of the others were being converted for Nigeria

Whatever the cause, first of all it's hoped that no one was hurt. Secondly, that this doesn't materially impact on Abus' future - I think everyone who's had dealing with Alan appreciates his approachable nature and the hard work he's put in to build the business. Thirdly, there are some historic vehicles there and lets hope they have escaped the conflagration.

No that’s been the Kingswood Bus Project for many many years, I’m not sure if it was still in use.

The buses for Nigeria are the ex Brislington Park and Ride Tridents that Mundens acquires from First Hants and Dorset.

Good to see that the heritage vehicles have survived but must be sad that some of the best Abus vehicles have been lost. Remember enjoying the Merc AE11BDF when it was with Somerbus and thought it an exceptional vehicle.
