it was fine if annoying! The line to Kyle is fantastic and worth the trip alone

Aye, sorry to hear of your problems - I did similar last week and fortunately it all went swimmingly. Did you get a chance to have a look in the museum on Kyle station? It was a bit small but there was certainly a lot of info to be read and well worth the £1 admission. I will agree with you on the Kyle line too - lovely contrast from the lochs around Garve to the emptiness around Achanalt to the final, mesmerising run from Stromeferry into Kyle. Easily in the top 5 most scenic lines in Britain. The Highland Main Line from Stirling to Inverness is also very pretty too.

Perhaps they got a better fare? There isnt much choice up that way!
The museum is well worth a look and worth the £1. It was still a good day out, if only half the plan!
I would love to go back along that line on a proper train - the 158's are comfortable but to be able to open a window and look out must be great! I remember going on part of the line as a young boy on a family holiday but cant recall where we went to - it was part of the reason for going back.

Very poor service. Probably had a fare from a local/regular customer (and probably not a better fare either) . I've had similar problems with rural taxi firms in other parts of the UK too.
