Today I was on the 0720 to Kings Cross to go to the MNR, I was going to get the 0733 to Kings cross then onto London Liverpool St, but I thought I would get the earlier train just in case there was delay.
Journey was fine, got over Radlett Jnc nice and smoothly, got down to Cricklewood and was preparing myself for Kings Cross, we go over a junction south of the station. There was more bouncing than usual and noises from the pantograph above (I was in the pantograph car of course). We then slow down to a halt, thinking this was strange but knowing there was signals nearby I just ignored it, until the lights went out leaving just the emergency ones on. Knowing this was probably just due to power loss I was waiting for the driver to announce he was just going to reset the train. He walked down through the first 319, then into rear (which I was in), he checked the control box between the Pantograph car and the Toilet car. Muttering to himself he went back to the cab. He tried to reset the panto but you could hear something was wrong, so he went back to the first 319's cab.
Another 319 pulled up against us on the down slow as we were on the down fast, the driver looked at the panto, and was shocked then laughed, he then moved on to the first 319 to speak to driver to tell him what state the pantographs where in.
Our driver came out to look for himself, he was not pleased as this was his first major brake down. NR staff later came along to organise what was going to happen.
In the end another 319 pulled up on the freight line which splits the Down fast and the Up slow apart. The 319 stopped between both of the units, then they tried to think of a way to detrain us, in the end, one 319 at a time got evacuated by the cab doors, into the rear cab door of the rescuing 319. Taking well over 3/4 of a hour to do all this, we got reversed into Cricklewood CS then back onto the Down Slow to carry on the service to Brighton.
What a morning eh? And to add to that, I guess you could say the 319s had their pants down
