I'm currently on an EMT HST coming down into London sitting in 1st. Just been told that complimentary water's run out (first thing in the morning?), so i ended up paying for some sparkling. Then i was told that if i wanted a danish i have to pay for it. Does anyone know if this is now common practice at weekends? Seems a far cry from weekday services

The EMT website says:

"We’ve improved our First Class dining, with extra service staff on board to serve you our range of complimentary hot and cold drinks (now with fresh milk) and our delicious at-seat menu (where available). A free breakfast snack is also now provided for Business Anytime ticket holders. A full breakfast menu is also available on selected morning trains to London....

....Throughout your journey, whether or not you require a meal, on weekdays every First Class passenger can look forward to free orange juice, ethically traded premium tea and coffee, still and sparkling water and savoury snacks, and wine on evening departures . On weekends we offer tea and coffee at your seat. And don’t forget, we also offer a fully licensed trolley serving wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks."

To think that under MML it was free tea and coffee for standard class passengers at any time, I wouldn't say they were improving anything!

What kinda surprissed me is that now off-peak AP in 1st seems to cost more at weekends than wweekdays yet offer less service. First time I've travelled weekends in 1st for a long while. Never again though. Mind u those girls did work very hard today. Served us drinks, all the way round standard which was rather busy, and then back to us for more drinks while we were waiting at a signal outside STP. Thought they'd have been counting stock by then.
