Did TPE have any set fixed diagrams when they had 175's - like a diagram that was to be worked by a 3-car or was supposed to go back to Chester that night, or were they flexible with them?

Where did they stay overnight at when on a TPE day?

TPE took over the FNW routes of Manchester Airport to Blackpool/Barrow/Windermere which were routes that 175s had been specifically built for. DfT meddling saw the 175s all with ATW with some subleased to TPE until they got 185s.

The 175s did get switched around. ATW started painting them in their ghostly livery but didn't continue and ghostly livery Arriva units did appear on TPE services.

FNW did have them all based at Chester with stabling at Longsight and Newton Heath so I imagine it was similar with TPE.

on a 158
FNW(when it was North Western Trains at privatisation, and later bought by First), Used to run services to Holyhead, Llandudno and the Conwy Valley/Chester to Brum Routes. hence the depot at Chester.

(Central Trains ran Brum to Cambrian Coast, the rest operated by Wales and West)

When ATW was formed they shared the 175s with TPE until the latter got 185s on the West.

I think originally FNW planned to run a London service of some sort, and they ordered these for that? Or was that supposed to be the 180s

The 175s were ordered to replace 101s and loco-hauled mk3s. Although, due to initial reliability problems with the 175s it meant the 101s continued in service and when TPE pinched two FNW 158s a mk3 set returned to FNW.

The 175s were intended for north west and north Wales locals and regionals which is why were built with just standard class, while the 180s were intended to be used on services like Blackpool to London which is why they were built with FC and a higher top speed.

I presume you mean loco hauled Mk2s, I'm sure FNW never had any Mk3s, remember at that time they were all in service with Virgin West Coast (other than the buffets with Anglia). FNW used Mk2s on Hollyhead services hauled by 37s, which is what the 175s were intended to replace, along with allowing a cascade down to replace the 101s.

Yes I meant mk2s. Although by the time TPE pinched a couple of the FNW 158s the mk3s with Virgin had mainly been replaced by Voyagers and Pendolinos.
