I would imagine the Voyager would have been on restrictive aspects or something then as there is no way a HST would catch up that quick if both were at full power

Canna remember now, might well have been. Found the note in my notebook last night confirming it was before Tilehurst, but that's upstairs and I've forgotten the date or where I was going now. I do remember having a smile on my face as we raced past the 220 though!

Some time ago, and not common, but I was on a 156 leaving Glasgow Queen Street at the same time as a 170 (bi-directional running).

Up Cowlairs Incline?

No contest! :D

I had a similar situation yesterday leaving Cardiff Central. I was on a 143 (143606) on the 10:01 to Penarth, and a Coradia 175 (175002) was on the 10:01 to Milford Haven (06:30 from Manchester) and although my train left first, 175002 made an absolute beast of a departure and completely whipped us fast. By the time we were bending round by Canton depot, 175002 was well gone down the SWML :p

Loughborough often has simultaneous 15x and Meridian departures. Of course, the Meridian always "wins" without contest and arrives at East Midlands Parkway a small number of minutes ahead.

(Just enough time to hop out of the Meridian and buy a ticket before getting on the 15x, as I found out last time I did a Red Dot Day.)

One fun one I had a while ago was on a Lincoln-Leicester service pulling off from East Midlands Parkway one night. We were still accelerating on the up slow when an NR measurement train passed on the up fast, but it can't have been going that fast because the DBSO lights were still visible as we started overhauling it, and still accelerating we left it behind. Got off at Loughborough and had a few mins wait before it came though. Probably was only doing about 40mph as the slow line speed is not at all fast.

Midland metro tram 20sec ahead departing The Hawthornes heading to Snow Hill vs a 168 I was on. By time we'd got to Snow Hill I had time to nip to the station cafe and still stroll onto the platforms for the tram.

Yep. 'twas fun though as my brother was on the tram. It was great non stop to snow hill on said 168. I've had a 150 between the hawthorns and jewelly quarter left same time as tram yet arrived after tram (due to a shed moving with wagons filled with scrap

Tyne and Wear Metro and Northern trains between Pelaw and Gateshead Stadium. One day was lucky enough to get the Jarrow Oils with a 60 going along all the way from Hebburn to Gateshead. Pretty evenly matched due to the 60 going slow and all the stops on Metro inbetween the two stations.
