thank you very much indeed everyone. looking at past performance on recenttraintimes.co.uk the train I was getting has been a little flakey (1038 from Glasgow) getting cancelled so booked an hour earlier and hopefully won't have a problem. not to bothered about being a bit late - I just want...
Hi all, planning to travel Glasgow to Euston next week and see the potential for trains to be cancelled looking at previous performance.
I'll book standard premium.
If my train is cancelled and the next train's standard premium is full what's the likelihood I'll be allowed to it in first...
thanks for all the comprehensive advice as always!
Booked first advance out and off peak return on same booking. If plans change then my risk seems to be £10 charge to change each advance to a new date (completely unrelated to this journey but fair enough) and £10 each charge to cancel...
well..... the trip will go ahead fully, on those dates and by train, or it won’t happen at all. Ageing parents competing with a reasonably priced trip requiring advance booking :)
I’m trying to minimise the financial damage if if I have to cancel.
Thanks for all the help - it has been...
Hi. Thanks again. You made a very good point and got me searching and I think the date of the return can’t be changed according to this link
https://trainsupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3859/~/virgin-trains-ticket-–-off-peak-single-%28online%29
but..... to answer your point...
Thank you very much for the quick reply.
That's terribly frustrating as I want a return but can't commit to half of it at the moment.
Happy to take the "advance" risk as understood by everyone - but to be double-penalised for not taking the return at the same time seems pretty unfair.
cheers...
I need some advice _again_ on Glasgow <-> London Euston fares.
I want to book a return leaving 7/12 and returning 10/12.
The outward ticket is an advance and return is off peak.
Circumstances are that I’m not 100% sure I’m making the trip but happy to take the gamble on the advance but wait a...
Hi, the only thing I can help with here is that, in my experience, Virgin Trains does not give Railcard discounts on top of Seat Sale fare prices.
thanks
paul
Many thanks for that. It defies logic but fair enough.....
I had hoped to book it all in one journey on Virgin's website as it keeps it simple if there are any problems but the saving is so big it's not worth it.
I can however book the first class single and the local single separately on VT...
Please see attached two images. One is return from Glasgow to Euston with return first class at £67.30 for 2 with 2 together railcard but if i change to kilmarnock departure the outward goes up by about £2 but the return goes up by about £35. I’m sure I’m missing something obvious but does...
Would be perfectly happy with that, price permitting :-). I'll have a google. Any pointers?

Thanks for that. Looked like there was something amiss

Many thanks all. I'll look into the options you mention. We're going on a cruise and last time I looked baggage was a problem with flybe but I'll definitely look again.
Thanks again
Paul
Hi. Looking to see if I can save some money on a rail trip. I want to travel Kilmarnock to Southampton stopping overnight in London. It would be leaving 17 October, staying London that night then going to Southampton the next morning. All one way. I can see reasonable prices (obviously not for...
Thanks for the fast reply. I'll take that advice. Tomorrow the weather forecast for saturday will be clearer so I'll maybe pitch up at a ticket office and see how I get on. I'm getting the train tomorrow anyway
Hi, I am looking to use a Sainsbury's offer £19 anywhere In scotland from Glasgow q st (GLQ) to Oban return on Saturday 31/3 departing 1037 from GLQ.
I would like to book seats but online booking says no seats avail outbound but ok return. However, if I look at a normal single GLQ to Oban I...
It wasn't a one off! I just experienced it half an hour ago on the 1240 Glasgow to euston. Exact same sentence followed by a whispered "cutbacks".
