I work at this station quite frequently. It’s quite common for people buying tickets to be speaking welsh to one another, whjch suggests they have travelled from Gwynedd or Anglesey/ynys mon - easily a two hour drive. I jokingly refer to it as North Wales Parkway
Making a journey today from Merseyside to Aberystwyth. I noticed on apps it had a 1714 departure from Chester to Shrewsbury (departing just 22 minutes before the next scheduled service on this route) which does not appear in the May timetable booklet. I boarded it (where I am writing this post)...
I’d like to nominate a couple:
My favorite line is the Heart of Wales. Walked through the hills the other day and ended up at Llangammarch. What a beautiful little halt. I had two and a half hours before my train, and I noticed a local resident tending to the myriad flowers that occupy the...
Seen this article online explaining that an argument has been reached to reinstate a 5th service along the Heart of Wales line.

Though I must stress this is a news article, and I’ve yet to see an...
Besides, whilst it has next to nothing in the way of passenger facilities - it’s in a beautiful part of the world with glorious countryside for miles around. I can think of bleaker places.
So a couple of points. Railway enthusiasts tend to be more indpendant when using a railway station. You don’t work on the railways, you’ll be surprised what the general public can be like at times, they ask questions many on this forum would think a baby would know the answer to. And it happens...
I was at Dolau yesterday. Absolutely gorgeous station. I was planning to walk to Pen-y-Bont but couldn’t be bothered walking the additional 3 miles. Glad I didn’t! Whilst I had to wait for an hour and half, I couldn’t think of a more picturesque little station to wait. I of course signed the...
Bidston is horrible. Whilst the station itself is keot reasonably tidy and is staffed throughout service (helpful when trains go t*ts up) - it is in the middle of a field basicslly, and the approach to the station is ugly and strewn with litter. Whilst it isn’t remote by Dovey Junction or...
Not enough Train Managers are trained on 507’s so the spares at Southport can’t be utilised unfortunately. A great day that we have two 507’s in service on one line. Doubt this will ever happen again.
Ive noticed on Apple maps, they label a line by it’s toc if it is the only one running services on that line, and ‘national rail’ if the line is used by multiple companies

Why do they rush to swap them out? Surely it is easier to just keep it on til end of service. Seems so pointless to swap it out in the middle of the evening.
They’re not the worst areas, I like little Sutton and Capenhurst is in the middle on nowhere (though it’s less than a mile to the A41).
Issue is we have been having problems with youths on the ELP branch for the past couple of years. It’s died down somewhat of late but still incidents crop up...
End of the day yes there is plenty of staff and they carry out many duties bar ticket retailing. Unless you’re a disgruntled Merseyside (Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley etc) tax payer then technically your opinion is irrelevant really. Most people I’ve spoke to like staff at their stations and it makes...
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
