You're right I phrased that badly, should have said "only access to Greenwich area..." but that was the branch I meant, going via the separate Lewisham Road and Blackheath Hill as seen is this map of 2010 (when the Catford Loop had been added)
The Metropolitan Extension originally referred to the extension south of the Widened Lines via Elephant & Castle:
So this junction was added to provide access to those lines form the London Bridge
Prior to that the only access was by the London, Chatham & Dover's Greenwich Line via Nunhead...
I used the Loading figures for some comparison of various services through Denmark Hill, Herne Hill & Balham, both Average & Total passenger numbers
it's interesting how Thameslink via Catford top both in the Peaks and drop to the least off peak
Note that Catford Services see a lot of...
This seems to cause an an awful lot of inconvenience for very little gain. If you were set on alleviating the Herne Hill divert the Sutton Loop Trains to London Bridge after Tulse Hill. Avoids Herne Hill and doesn't negatively impact change destination for all existing Local/ Mainline Chatham...
This would, in effect, make it identical to the '2K' Welwyn Moorgate services which skip H&H anyway, would the expectation be that The additional stops go into the off peak only? and the pattern remains semi-fast in the peaks? otherwise they'll leave Welwyn at the same time* and arrive FPK at...
The
Prior to the Wimbledon Loop decision in 2012 the indicative timetable in the 2010 RUS had
2tph Bellingham St Albans
2tph Catterham St Albans
(attached)
if the Sutton Trains stayed on the Holborn Slows this would remove all conflicts with anything approaching the Core on the Fasts and...
Thanks for the detailed explanation! I didn't realises that only one depot only singed Victoria. Ashford was presumably for the Maidstone East-Cambridge Service that never was...
You mention the different terms and condition etc an I'm guessing this is what I'm driving at, with the New GBR...
on the same vain it would be good to see some co-ordination between SouthEastern and Thameslink too. Next weekend the Catfood Loop will operate 1 hourly service Saturday and Sunday as they divert into Victoria, the reason given being lack of route knowledge. I have some scepticism on that but...
on the same theme, Euston to Stockwell? the platform would tell you both southbound but they depart from adjacent platforms in opposite directions (Vic Line West, Northern East)
yes that timetable posted was for 1936, 1947 was much sparser and off peak it suggests a shuttle between Crystal Palace and Nunhead was all that was provided. Mind you all services were thinner then!
I agree it's unlikely to have made it 'til the 90s by by then so many other services in the area were rammed. Still more likely than Greenwich Park!
I've, just conjured up a stopping service to Blackfriars:
Crystal Palace High Level, Upper Sydenham, Lordship Lane, Honor Oak, Nunhead, Peckham...
I think if the CP High Level Level had survived until the 90s it would be ok now, particular in light of the South London Line closure. As others stated I think Greenwich Line was doomed. London Reconnections did and article about it but can't find it now...
attached platforms for Victoria Kent.
A lot of the routes into Victoria are restricted to 8 Car (Orpington via HNH, Maidstone East, Catford Loop) only the Dover/ Ramsgate Fasts used to be 12 Car so less of an issue in practice. All 4 tph on the Orpington line are turned around in Platform 3 for...
I had a quick look at this and there are 5 timetabled as a 10 car, (Dartford via Woolwich & Lewisham) all outside of the peak so you'd think this would be manageable. I can't recall what the SDO status is on these trains because I appreciate that gives a bit more operational flexibillity.
Even...
it's the service that's routed by Blackheath & Lewisham that I think should change to another Destination simply because, in respect to London Bridge the x6/x36 is over taken by the x9/39 and the loadings reflect that. Victoria may be niche but better that then the same , but slower
