There was an 09 at Lovers Walk for many years after privatisation but probably not seen it for at least 10 years. How much (if at all) it ventured south on pilot duties I don't know.

The only reason it would need to go via Hove would would be to turn a kettle via the triangle, but as it was duff-hauled (apparently) it would just complicate and lengthen the journey.

Although 377s are used now, last year there was about 60,000 journeys between "Brighton" (Brighton, Hove, Portslade) and "Portsmouth" (Portsmouth Harbour, Portsmouth and Southsea, Fratton).
