I don't know. If you go to most continental cities, or even Tyne and Wear in this country, Metro means trains. And not just to enthusiasts. More likely it is the latter who think of bus services in British cities as Metros. Maybe in West Yorkshire, where they seem to talk about the 'Metro'...

But it is seen by many, nonetheless, as a symbol of English dominance. (And it doesn't represent all nations: Wales isn't included). I just happen to think that the Union Jack style branding (and the name) of GBR is a sop to the rabid English nationalists of the far right.

I doubt if the reaction would have been so violent if the GBR branding were not so needlessly provocative - all that Union Jack nonsense. But why does Glasgow Central have to be managed by GBR anyway? And why is it GBR rather than just BR? Pandering to Reform?

If Edge Hill closed, not many people would be inconvenienced. Edge Hill and its catchment would be at least slightly better off from all this; if people started to see it as their local metro station and not just as some kind of steam age anachronism, much more than slightly.
