I've variously heard Heaton Holth and Chinwester in my time.
Also, I'm not going to be the one to explain Hunts Cross, but I've heard one of those too :D
Back in 2019 for a short time, SWR had a weekday service that ran from Waterloo and terminated at Branksome, one stop after Bournemouth.
More convenient for the depot, you might think, but no, it then formed at Branksome to Southampton service.
I think it's probably a combination of low demand (if you're going from Swaythling to the city centre, you'd just get the very frequent bus) and limited pathing on that section of line - the up service is only three minutes ahead of the Weymouth-Waterloo semi-fast when it overtakes at Eastleigh...
The 1639 Winchester to Bournemouth definitely fits the bill. Unlike the earlier Winchester to Southampton (ignore the quick diversion via Portsmouth) and Southampton to Bournemouth, this one calls additionally at Swaythling, St Denys and Redbridge (the first and last of those being the realm of...
Bluestar's H1 and H2 service a couple of stops twice: The H1 serves Chaloner Crescent in Buttsash, then does a loop before serving it again. Both services also loop round to serve Hythe Pier twice, with the H2 also serving the two stops after the Pier twice on the route.
I've done the S&D between Wimborne and Ringwood, with Ashley Heath's platform still present. The Hamble branch as far as the oil terminal is also an excellent one to walk as it's all still there, plus when you're done you can head toward Netley and what remains of the Netley Hospital branch.
The Swanage 117 was refurbished to mainline standards as part of Project Wareham, so I would presume it can be used as hauled stock on the mainline - but it could also run under its own power - assuming it's still in mainline condition 6 years on.
Arguably (and I also don't want this to happen) the Brockenhurst to Lymington line could come into that category. There's no freight services to worry about, and the service is just a shuttle back and forth. The bus already runs at the same frequency and is a longer journey, but not hugely so...
Spotted this presumably old "Fish dock" sign on the platform at Bournemouth last month. I've no idea when it dates from, but there's not many fish there now!
The summer uplift on the Breezers usually comes in around late May. If the last few years are anything to go by, the 40 will go roughly hourly in the evening with the last from Poole at 2310 and the last from Swanage at 2300 (2200 on Sundays). 50 is hourly in the evening until about 10pm
I think reliability has been a bit of a mixed back for them, and was almost certainly a factor in the reduction last year. Red route 1823 was repaired rather quickly after a nasty smash in Charminster because its counterpart 1824 was so unreliable I think it spent more of the first half of the...
In their dying throes, Yellow Buses replaced all but a handful of peak journeys on route 3 (Bournemouth to Castlepoint) with the 3X which ran non-stop between the rail station and Charminster. This only by-passed 6 stops and required a convoluted route to get from the station to the Wessex Way...
I'm going by hearsay, so take it with a pinch of salt, but apparently it's been under repair for a couple of months (and was low on mileage anyway). Hopefully will return in the next few weeks.
