Our new ticketing site is now live! Using either this or the original site (both powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase! Find out more and ask any questions/give us feedback in this thread!
I think the point of the matter is the poster does not make the distinction which services you can/cannot buy tickets on board. Ok so the poster features Gatwick Express branding, but it does not refer to any 'Gatwick Express services' so you could argue even on FGW/FCC services without any...
There are two principle reasons:
1) The system is designed to announce only on the platform you can hear it or, at the very most, also on the adjacent platform. Therefore that part of the announcement is irrelevant!
The announcement that plays on Ditra prior to the service approaching...
Probably not very much, considering when the TTS was first used to make announcements it used 'Microsoft Sam'...
It's getting better! There are still random pauses where there shouldn't be, and when passing through myself this afternoon she was saying the Bakerloo line was suspended between...
As I said earlier, it is the key justification in any business: cost.
The much better Ditra system you had on the GN side prior to the switchover was more expensive than this ATOS system. The adage has been demonstrated - 'you get what you pay for'!
I, on the other hand, am still trying to...
It's been like that for just over a month now. It was fine at its introduction but now some of the GN problems are starting to surface here as well. Sometimes it will randomly decide not to announce a train and announce a delay of 15 minutes for a train sitting in the platform on time...
Phil...
14 months ago, we had the following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYbQS5DtihE
http://www.londonmidland.com/news/latest-news/london-midland-services-on-sunday-6-september/
There were also the severe problems with FCC a few months later...
3 of the 11 units operate the Salisbury > Romsey > Southampton > Eastleigh > Romsey figure of six route.
1 operates the Brockenhurst > Lymington Pier service on Mondays to Fridays.
Others strengthen West of England (London Waterloo > Basingstoke > Salisbury > Yeovil > Exeter) services.
Interesting it is just 'King's Cross' and not 'London King's Cross'... But yes, I'd hope this problem is seen as paramount priority to get fixed!
Reminds me of when Funkwerk was put on TL North stations 'St Albans, St Pancras!, Farringdon' was later changed to 'St Albans, St Pancras...
Indeed - this was confirmed by Phil himself. They then equalise the volume between old and new clips to ensure the announcement sounds as natural as possible.
If it is the Ditra Informer product then there is a fee for updates. In a contract I'd expect it is part of the deal, but obviously at greater cost than the product alone.
Updates would need to be included for various reasons. Go to London Bridge platform 6 and you will witness some of...
Exactly! Although the point stands about updates to the system (which I believe are done remotely over the realms of the internet) - Ditra gets Phil and Celia to go to a studio every 2-3 months to (re-)record new things.
I would guess these update costs were considerably greater than those of...
It worked for those awful displays on the TL side! It took a few months but after probably several thousand complaints they took notice and thought 'actually, these are not fit for purpose'.
The one thing they are bound to say is it is an 'investment'. You have to simply rubbish that idea...
I once missed a bus by a minute where it left about 3 minutes early. I was appoaching from the direction the bus was going and tried stopping him again but he shrugged his shoulders at me, leaving me to wait an hour for the next one (which, as Sod's Law would have it, was late...).
Upon...
Complain, continuously. Hopefully you'll get the delightful, fully working, Mr Sayer back with his robust system that didn't receive half as many complaints!
I'm surprised the GN side is having that many problems - at stations on the TL side, things seem to have went a lot smoother...
On a generic system such as ATOS then it would require a lot longer for a script re-record by a more 'professional' voiceover such as Phil.
Ditra has an 'up' and 'down' variant for each station in its bank, ATOS also has a 'start' variant for the station immediately after 'calling at'. The...
It will continue to be crap - just like Funkwerk was on the TL side when it was introduced a little over two years ago (the only plus was it had Phil's voice, although the infrastructure made him sound patronising due to old speakers being used - it was always much better at St Pancras)...
