Time for the Atherton line to connect to Piccadilly?

I can only comment on the Agecroft proposal but I suspect it would be incredibly difficult. What Google maps doesn't show you is the elevation changes, the railways line is down in the valley and you'd have to come up 30/40m, then go over the A6 duel carriageway and immediately drop down the...

Manchester Victoria to Wigan North Western diagram

It is 3 trains each way in both the morning peak and evening peak. It was introduced in December 2022, at the same time that Eccles lost its peak time stops on the Leeds to Chester service so it also acts as a replacement service for that as well as giving Wigan an extra peak service. And as was...

Manchester Victoria to Wigan North Western diagram

From my experience it is busy from Wigan in the mornings but not in the evenings. On the other hand it's quiet from Manchester Victoria in the morning but busy in the evenings. It also gives Eccles an extra train to/from Manchester at peak times but it only stops at Eccles on trains to...

    Newton-le-Willows Platform Extension

What other stations on the line need extending to accommodate 6 car trains? I know Eccles is long enough as I use it often but I'm pretty sure there's a fair few that need extending

    Transpennine woes and a moan...

As someone who unfortunately has to deal with TPE's shinanigans on a near daily basis I'm used to cramped trains but today takes the cake. From Leeds to Manchester both the 15:07 and 15:15 were cancelled, leaving Leeds with no TPE service westbound for an hour. To compound matters further the...

Trivia: Stations where passengers headed for a completely different destination end up on a regular basis

One I've seen was someone getting on a train at London Bridge getting on a train to Hastings when they needed to go to Hayes. Matters were made worse as there were engineering works that day and the Hastings train was going via the Hayes line before heading around the chord at Beckenham and the...

How unusual is it for a train on a route to skip all intermediate stations?

I've experienced it with southeastern a fair few times heading from London towards Hastings, with trains suddenly going High Brooms, Tunbridge Wells, Hastings at very short notice after London Bridge or even Waterloo East on occasion

Late LNR service 21/05/2022 from Milton Keynes to Euston after concert

MCR are playing in Warrington this Friday, it will be interesting to see how northern copes with getting everyone back to Liverpool or Manchester after that concert, especially given how LNWR fared.

Golborne station reopening - How might it be served?

Isn't there a proposal a to run peak time services from Manchester Victoria - Eccles - Wigan, in place of stopping the Leeds-Chester at Eccles at peak times from December? That could in theory stop at Golborne, if they made that service hourly then you could have a viable service pattern

Northern Dec 2022 Manchester area Timetable Consultation

Trivia: A train that overtakes another train, then gets overtaken on the same journey

Although not scheduled if the Edinburgh/Blackpool - Euston via Brum is running 5 or so mins late (which is surprisingly often) it will overtake the XC from Manchester - Reading/Bournemouth at or just before Stafford which then in turn overtakes it at Wolverhampton

Timeline for restoring various services withdrawn due to Covid
