Trivia: UK bus stations not fit for purpose

It is a bit grubby but, according the More website, refurbishment has started - both on the bus station itself and the immediate area outside. An article on their News pages reads: We are working alongside BCP Council, using money from the Government's Bus Service Improvement Plan, to help...

    Multi Storey Bus Stations

Taipei Bus Station (actually the city's long-distance coach station), opened in 2009, has arrivals/departures from three levels, what we would call the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. It runs very smoothly. The ground floor and basement are a shopping mall. Ticket counters are also on the ground floor.

Trivia: Civil Parishes with no bus services.

There must be hundreds. Unless there are bus services I don't know of, in West Northamptonshire alone there are 23 by my reckoning: Thenford, Marston St Lawrence, Radstone, Helmdon, Thorpe Mandeville, Sulgrave, Weston and Weedon, Wappenham, Abthorpe, Moreton Pinkney, Woodend, Blakesley...

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

I had my first ride on the 730/2s this week, when a pair formed the 1946 Crewe service out of Euston on the two evenings I caught it. First thoughts are that the ambience is great. True, the seats are hard compared to the 350s, but they're far from the worst I've sat in. I found the legroom fine...

Councils that still publish PDF or paper bus network maps.

West Northamptonshire have very recently published a set of excellent pdf timetable books, spider maps for main centres and an interactive council-wide map. As far as I know, none are available in paper form, however. All available from https://www.westnorthants.gov.uk/travel/bus-timetables

    RMT industrial action 5th - 12 September 2025

When I used the Northern Line from Euston around 1.30pm, headway was 7-8 minutes on both branches. It was quiet down there and very quiet in Euston ticket hall, the latter probably helped by the Avanti on-train announcements that it was closed. A unexpected bonus for me on the way to Heathrow...

    Euston overcrowding

I agree. It is much clearer than the transverse boards. Now all we need is for them to be taken away! And yes, the WH Smith Bookshop is presently being dismantled. It should help flow to the toilets and platforms 1-3, unless they find another use for the space as they did the old Boots. Much...

    Storm Bert Saturday 23rd November

I think you've got it in one. The water used to get held up on the flood plain north of the town and released slowly. I drive past Brampton Crossing regularly and yes, the northern arm of the River Nene there has been straightened as part of the new by-pass and the inevitable housing...

    Storm Bert Saturday 23rd November

Northampton station is actually at Westbridge. The station adjacent to South Bridge was the old Bridge Street station closed many decades ago. Having been in town today, I can vouch that the flooding around the River and north of the station is pretty impressive, although it's far from the first...

Changes to Hereford City Bus Routes

According to an old timetable book I have, in autumn 2017: Yeomans to Newton Farm (74/74A) was every 12 minutes Mondays-Saturday, every 30 mins Sundays. X78/78 was every 30 mins, but with an extra journey many daytime hours on 454 between Hereford and Rotherwas. 420 to Bromyard was six buses...

    Rooftop park proposal for Euston

This week's Camden New Journal reports on a presentation last Monday (February 12th) at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in Bloomsbury that proposes putting a 'forest park' on top of Euston station, with - if I read it correctly - a linear park running from it, all the way to...

    Alternatives to Trainline ticket alert

Does anyone know if there are good alternatives to the Trainline Ticket alert that covers all routes and all operators (or at least Avanti and LNR, who I am specifically interested in)? The Trainline has changed how theirs works. Instead of just needing to enter the route and date, it now asks...

Euston departure board to be moved

Actually, there are two arrival screens at Euston (or were last week!). Both old-style TV monitor-type affairs. Neither obviously located to be fair. One is on the main concourse, roughly near the top of platform 12, one in the waiting room between the ramps to platforms 15 and 16.

    Uno Bus

Uno are quitting Northampton from March 10, 2024. It's existing University of Northampton routes will be taken over by Stagecoach. What happens to its rural service to Guilsborough, Welford and Market Harborough is still uncertain. Report in the Northampton Chronicle & Echo here...

Tough evening on 9S97 1740 London Euston to Glasgow Central (06/10/23)

I didn't stop to ask if that's where they came from, but there was quite a crowd of people at Rugby at 2310 as I go off the delayed delayed 2146 Euston-Crewe, which arrived just after the failed Glasgow train finally got there.
